Mexico is a significant market for medical equipment and pharmaceutical products. To inform Flemish companies about how this sector operates and what the supply opportunities are, Flanders Investment & Trade is organizing a webinar on this topic on Wednesday, March 27, 2024.
In 2021, the medical equipment and pharmaceutical products sector grew by 8.2% compared to 2020, with a similar growth of around 8% expected for the coming years. In 2021, Mexico imported a total of USD 11.1 billion, consisting of USD 5.9 billion in medical devices & supplies and USD 5.2 billion in pharmaceutical products.
There are various healthcare systems in Mexico. The majority of Mexicans are insured by a government system. Additionally, more than 12 million Mexicans have private medical and accident insurance, allowing them to easily access the services of private hospitals. Private hospital groups such as Grupo Empresarial Angeles, Star Medica, Hospital San José, Centro Médico ABC, and Hospital Español often have larger budgets to acquire advanced foreign medical technology.
